Life of Pi

These posters I made that are inspired by the movie "Life of Pi". I watched the movie and had to create two pieces of art. I decided to make two posters, one simple and elegant, and the other with more detail and meaning. The top image is my take on the simple and elegant poster. I wrote the title of the movie in a font I liked and then placed tiger claw marks over the text to create a sliced/cut effect. Lastly I overlaid the same tiger pattern onto the claw marks and the background to create a cohesive look. The image below is the more meaningful and detailed poster. First off, it gives a sense of what the movie is about. The boat and the ocean set the scene and Pi's face merged with a tiger's suggest that there is a relationship between the two. This is where the metaphorical meaning comes in. In the movie, Pi tells two stories to the journalist, one using real people and the other using animals to represent the people. The journalist figures out that the tiger represents Pi in the animal-story. Therefore I put their faces together to show their relationship.
